Help-seeking is not a sign of weakness, but that of strength. We’re social creatures that thrive when we utilise the energy and expertise of compassionate others during our darkest moments. Help-seeking is the realisation that humans are not designed to go through life challenges all alone. Help-seeking is proof of humility. It is the authorisation for activating one of the most powerful laws of nature – the law of relationship.
Your brain reacts positively when willing others join forces with you to help you in your struggles, providing an atmosphere of safety, reassurance and solidarity. Your brain shrinks in isolation but flourishes in a compassionate community. What are you going through today that requires your humility to seek appropriate help. Your ability to win the battle of the mind that you face today will be decided by the speed and quality of your help-seeking.
Somebody has what you need. Somebody is willing to accommodate and validate your fears and concerns in a non-judgemental relationship. Sometimes, it requires knocking on several doors, but there is a door that is willing to be open to your needs if you don’t give up or get hampered by shame.
